Kelly moved with her family from
Ohio to Florida when she was nine-years old and attended
public schools in Deerfield Beach. After graduating from
Deerfield Beach High School, Kelly attended Palm Beach
Community College and the University of Florida. After
college, she entered the real-estate industry and spent
12 years at the real estate development company, Arvida.
In 1996 she began serving as a legislative aide to State
Representative Ron Klein. She continued working for him
in the State Senate, where she finished nearly a decade
of service and reached the position of District Chief.
In 2006, Kelly entered the race to become the next
Florida State Representative from District 90. That same
year, she began working at the Arthritis Foundation,
Florida Chapter and is currently the Vice President of
Advocacy and Public policy. In this position, she helps
bring awareness to the most common cause of disability
in the United States -- herself being diagnosed at age
four with Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis (JRA).
In 2008, Kelly was re-elected to a second term as a
State Representative. During her time in the Florida
House, she sponsored and passed landmark legislation
that will rein in the out of control pain clinics that
have become havens for illicit prescription drug
trafficking in South Florida.
As an active member of the Florida Biotech Caucus, Kelly
has offered proposals to continue Florida’s investment
in creating high wage jobs and maintaining our state’s
commitment to research and development. She has also
spearheaded efforts to protect and promote the legacy of
Florida’s marine industry.
Additionally, Kelly continues to fight for equal rights,
sensible regulations for teenage drivers, and many
health related causes.
Kelly and her husband, Ray, live in Boca Raton with
their daughter, Mary Alice, who is a junior at A. W.
Dreyfoos School of the Arts. |
